My work is a combination of traditional woodcut and painting. Over the years I have refined my technique and continue evolving every time I pick up a knife or a brush. Hard to explain on paper but it really comes together when viewed in person.
Joy’s Biography
Joy Benusa has a degree in Fine Art from Thiel College where she first discovered the wonder of woodcut printmaking. Creating reduction woodcuts is very relatable to painting in that you work with color as well as line. At some point the printing on paper part fell away to just cutting the design onto the block and adding the color directly. As you get older less is more and this idea of a woodcut/painting is perfectly simple.
