BUSINESS NAME: B. Lizzy
ARTIST STATEMENT: I let the moment orchestrate the stroke of my pen, harmonize the color on my brush.
When I design my jewelry, I think about everything else except creating, letting my mind and pen wander. Then the seed of inspiration grows spontaneously, capturing an interpretation of consciousness – the way my thoughts/ ideas/feelings are melded together as an instant – changing, spiraling and branching, diving down within a detail before streaming away in a new direction – taking you on a journey through wonderland.
Harnessing technology in new ways, I conform metal into my organic forms. With a cold-enameled Champlevé process, I elevate the metal architecture as an integral part of the work, rather than just a container of color. Oil paint layered and blended with tiny brushes, I flow gradients of color and contrast, building a sense of mystery to be discovered through a looking-glass of shimmering resin.
BIO: Based in Pittsburgh, Liz Sabol is a relative newcomer to the jewelry world, but a veteran in design and graphic arts. She grew up the eldest of seven children on a dairy farm in Western Pennsylvania, where she cultivated her lifelong love of nature, art and design. She nurtured that sensibility through the study of concert piano, chemical engineering, fine art, design, and technology. After a successful 25-year career in branding and corporate marketing, she found herself restless and began seeking new ways to express her artistic vision. In 2011 she first experimented with intricate beading work. Not finding the answer there, she transitioned to the hypnotic experience of lampworking glass, closely followed by explorations into metal in 2013. That journey has led her to discover a harmony achieved with technology and her signature organic forms. She endeavors to bring a different perspective to metal, by combining metal with media and techniques not traditionally found in jewelry. With her love of oil painting and metal, she creates miniature works of art - not to hang on the wall, but ones you can wear every day.
